Give Me an "L"

Our Signature Move: Throwing up an "L"

It's Louisville's best non-verbal way to show school spirit. Fans do this when posing for photos, whenever a basketball player is about to shoot free throws, right before the kickoff in a football game. Really, any time the moment grabs you. Using just your right hand, stick out your thumb to the side while raising your index and middle fingers. Now bend your ring and pinky fingers. That's it.

C-A-R-D-S Cheer

You Will Hear it at Games

You will hear it at watch parties and pep rallies. Now it's time to live it. The CARDS Cheer is a trademark at all athletics games and campus events. The cheer also is the universal (and loudest) way to show your Louisville pride. There's nothing quite like it when all of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium yells out these five letters in unison.

CardMarch

Get your first look at the Cards

Two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff, the Cardinals football team makes its entrance through the parking lot of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in front of hundreds of screaming fans. The players march from the team bus to the stadium, getting fans and the team pumped for kickoff. Be sure to get there early if you want an inside view of the players and coaches – fans can and will pack the area.

Prepare for the White Out

Blizzard-like Conditions

Once during every basketball season, fans are asked to really get in on the action. Asked to wear white to the game for a White Out, fans paint the arena white eagerly awaiting this marquee matchup. The bold color creates a stirring sight – rallying the Cardinals base and overwhelming the opponent. Even Coach Rick Pitino gets involved, donning a white suit for the White Out on occasion.

My Old Kentucky Home

The Sun Shines Bright

Kentucky's state song is played at every home football and basketball game, along with the Call to the Post. The UofL Marching Band proudly plays My Old Kentucky Home at Louisville events and every year, the band plays the famous tune prior to the running of the Kentucky Derby.

Louisville's Ambassadors

A Tradition Unlike Any Other

Responsible for more than 35 National Championships, Louisville's spirit programs are at the front and center of school pride. The Ladybirds, UofL's dance team, is an 11-time national champion and widely considered the best collegiate dance team in all the land. Louisville's spirit programs include three cheer squads, the Ladybirds, Louie the Cardinals mascot, and the Cardinal Pride Pep Band.
